Libre font for the Veqilharxhi Alphabet

Recently, I completed the design of a libre font for the Veqilharxhi Alphabet. I used FontForge, a free font editor, and Veqilharxhi’s various font styles along with Everson’s much more professional font as guides to my design. Based on the Unicode proposal by linguist and typographer Michael Everson and inspired by the work artist Edon Muhaxheri has done in revitalizing the alphabet, I have used the Unicode slots U+10570 through U+105BD to encode the Veqilharxhi letters, except for the three letters representing non-Albanian phonemes (read Everson’s report for more information). Here’s a screenshot from FontForge (the empty slots in-between are for the letters not compliant with modern Albanian — the Greek ‘Beta’ phoneme, the Semitic ‘Heth’ phoneme, and the semi-vowel ‘i’ — which I’ve omitted for practical reasons):

I am releasing the font for public use and enhancement under the SIL OpenFont license. Here is an archive containing a TTF (true-type font) file ready for installation on your system as well as the FontForge SFD source file in case you get inspired to enhance or alter my design. NB: Due to WordPress file upload restrictions, I’ve changed the archive extension to PDF. Once you download it, please change the extension to ZIP, and then extract the archive to view the two font files.

In order to use the font, you need a keyboard layout. See this post for a keyboard layout I designed for Mac OSX.
